So, I usually get fairly involved with watching the Olympics on television, but this year I have been way too caught up. I guess it began with opening ceremonies in Beijing (that I forced Chap to t-vo and watch with me...he thanked me later) which were surprisingly amazing this year! Then tonight the men’s U.S. relay team barely beating France for the gold medal was fantastic! After swimming competitively for a few years, these swim events tend to be my favorites, but this one in particular was most exciting! Especially after the French drama (their relay team was quoted saying that they came to Beijing to ‘smash the Americans’) and then Michael Phelps' opportunity to possibly beat the record of having the most gold medals. Well, I was literally jumping up and down, screaming at the television, and punching the couch while watching the last few seconds of this race. Chap wasn’t nearly as thrilled, considering he fell asleep a couple hours ago and I’m sure that getting startled by your screaming wife is never a great way to be woken up. Since I don’t anticipate him waking up again to share my excitement, I figured I’d share it with you.
So, what’s your favorite? Have you ever been to the Olympics?? My parents took us to Atlanta in 96’ to watch a basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics event; it was a great experience. Hopefully, we’ll get to go again some day. Tomorrow I guess I’ll just go swimming.

The Olympics pretty much bore me. I just watch the recaps on the news. A snippet or two is just enough. I am way more into Army Wives.
Hmmmm...I have not checked into this Army Wives program, might have to look into that.
Have you gotten Tori's book yet??
No, I haven't gotten it. I am too lazy to go to the public library and have to see if I can get it through ILL at work. Katy read it, though. She said it was all we'd hoped it be. ;-)
I am, however, rading that book you sent for book chain, and it is REALLY good. You should def. read it when it gets back around to you. Good pick!
Army Wives is on its second season on Lifetime. It comes on during the summer at 10 o'clock on Lifetime. It is delicious. If you can watch the 1st season, it's great. I cry almost every episode. Plus, it really gives you a greater appreciation for the women who marry military men and their children, too.
I cannot think of any one I would rather have than the the young men and women I am watching in the Olympics, representing our country. Last nights show by the USA was spectacular and it makes me so proud of our youth and gives me confidence that our country will always be the envy of all other nations for many years to come. Love Aunt Susie (anonymous)
We have Olympic Fever over here too! :) Greg and i are totally into the swimming this year too! And I love the gymnastics!! I can totally picture you yelling and jumping up and down in excitement. :) Oh to be a fly on the wall at your house. ;)
I love the Olympics. That opening ceremony was FANTASTIC!!! It just kept getting better and better. I don't think anyone but the Chinese could have done it the way they did. No markings, no direction, that just blew my mind. They must have had to practice that for at least a year I would think, who knows, but it was amazing!!! I like to watch gymnastics the most, and high dive is cool and pretty much any type of the races. The Olympics are super.
Aunt Susie,
They are doing a great job representing this year...I can't imagine the pressure some of those young atheletes must feel...but they do it with such grace at such a young age. It's amazing!
Jamie,
I think Chap will switch places with you in a heartbeat...he was STILL not happy with me all day yesterday after my little outburst. He gave me several warnings that the next time I wake him up yelling there needs to be someone trying to steal me =) Oops!
Colly, we were also fascinated with those performers. I hope that someone does some sort of 'dateline special' or something that shows how they rehearsed for the opening ceremonies. I can't imagine trying to manage that many people at one time?!
Jenn,
Do not buy the book.
Love,
Heather =)
Ok.
Also, I just saw on the news that the Chinese used CGI etc. for the opening ceremony, so not everything you saw was real. Also, the little Chinese girl who was singing? Was lip-singing...to the voice of a 7 y/o Chinese girl who the Chinese decided wasn't cute enough for national TV. The Chinese are dirty. Bad, Chinese, cheating their way to the perfect opening ceremonies.
We are totally in to the Olympics at my house! We record everything and fast forward to the good stuff. Our favorites have been swimming for sure and gymnastics! We were going crazy watching the relay where we beet France and last night during mens gymnastics! AMAZING!!!!!
Jenn~
You are funny, I read something about this 'cheating' bit yesterday. Chap and I questioned the whole fireworks thing while we were actually watching it because it was so massive. I wonder if there was anything else they fudged??
Dionne~
Last nights gymnastics was fantastic! I wanted to hug that Sosha kid. I am really looking forward to the women's gymnastics tonight!
Jenn,
I knew that some of the opening was fabricated. They told us that in the beginning. The guy who created it or whatever is some top movie guy and he wanted it to be like a movie. A lot of the fireworks were animated images. But it still looked really cool!!!It was obvious the little girl was lip synching. That's no big deal since she was in a stadium of 90,000. It was crazy to hear though that they used her b/c the real singer was too ugly... for lack of a better way to put it. Poor little China girl.....that song sucked anyway. ;-)
I am still amazed by the discipline and precision and creativity it took for the live routines. Did you watch the whole thing???? What about that thing with the people under the boxes, that was awesome??!! And the light up suits??!!!! (I really want one of those btw) And all in all it was very different. In the end was them sending a message for hope of change for the future of their country. I liked it A LOT!!!!!!! I too wish they would do a special on the practice for it.
Whoopie Michael did it !!!
Aunt Susie
All i have to say about last night is YAY Phelps!! TEN Gold medals & is AMAZING!! What a great night!! Did you wake Chap up again? ;)
Opps...10th AND 11th Gold Medal...amazing athlete!! :)
Ok...so I did watch Michael Phelps pull off the 8th gold medal in a single Olympics to break the record...just so I can say I did.
See, don't you feel more American now for witnessing that?? =)
I told Gary, "We might as well watch so we can tell...um...your brother's children about it one day." ;-) Thanks for the birthday present. I'll blog about whetver I decide to buy.
Hey Punkin,
Sorry I've been so long getting on your blog. Fake or not, I thought this opening ceremony was the best I have ever seen! Incredible! My favorates are, as you already know, swimming, and gymnastics! (They remind me of the old days!!
